Internet weather reports say it is snowing in Chicago now. I wouldn't keep in in the box too long, maybe a couple of weeks if you mist the roots every few days. What do the instructions say? If it is growing leaves then buy garden soil and pot it. You can keep it outside under shelter and at night when it gets very cold bring it into an unheated garage. When the ground thaws out then plant it in you garden.
