My landscaper has suggested

My landscaper has suggested severly pruning my rosa ragusas (old roses) now in New England as well as pruning severly a pink regular rose bush that is growing into the street no matter how much I try to cut it back. I think he wants to prune everything way down.

I have my ragusas along my front by the street and they are quite woody and overgrown. I do not want to kill them. Help! What should I do?

I've had rogussas for years and every spring I prune them to about 1 foot from the ground and they always come back in leaps and bounds. Rogussas NEED to be pruned.

Although "heavy" pruning is usually not necessary for these type roses, it won't hurt anything. I, too, prune these depending on the space it occupies. In short, if you need to control it's growth, pruning alone will not kill it.
