moving roses wrong time of year

Hi,
I have several types of roses. Every year they grow like weeds. But this year we have to move just as they are starting to leaf and get buds. I am afraid they will all die moving them at the wrong time of the year, but I just can't bring myself to leave them behind! Any ideas or hints on how to save as many of them as I can? I have around a dozen. Should I put them all in some kind of pots until next spring? Or move them to a new location in the ground?

We moved June 2 a few years back. We dug up 10 rose bushes, digging as much soil around the roots as possible (try not to dammage the roots). Loaded them onto a trailer and moved them to our new lot. We kept the soil on the trailer damp so that the roots didn't dry out. The move was only a half hour away, so the plants were back in the ground within the day. As I recall, the bushes grew well for the rest of the summer.
