David Austin Roses for the West

I love the formal looking David Austin Roses, but I'm not sure if it'll work out in my Southern California backyard. My mother's roses have practically every disease known to man due to neglect and roses are so beautiful that I want to do everything right when mine are planted. I don't know if I'll need raised beds or anything, and landscapers aren't always adept at these things! I want to try landscaping my own backyard myself, but the rose part is becoming a sticking point due to all the books I've read that confuse me. HELP!

Yes, Austin roses will grow in southern California, provided they have plenty of water. They tend to grow much taller in California than in cooler climates such as England or the Pacific Northwest.
