    Pruning Rose Tree

What is a good way to prune rose tree? Do they need pruning and if yes how much. I am in Northern CA - SF Bay Area.

    Re: Pruning Rose Tree

Pruning rose trees are similar than pruning climber roses. You want to prune to shape and remove dead canes. Do not cut the main vertical stock of the tree (I will call it the trunk). You can use the length from the graft to the vertical top as the graft point center radius length for pruning arount the tree.  If you think you cut too much off no worries, it will grow back. You decide the shape, circle, umbrella, as long as it is symmitrical. An unballanced tree will cause uneven distribution of weight that could damage the trunk.

    Re: Pruning Rose Tree

I pruned my rose tree about three to four inches above the ball graft.  My other tea roses are coming out and look great.  The tree rose has not started coming out, but there are several new shoots coming out of the ground around it.  Is the tree rose dead?  What are the new shafts growing in around it?
