    Grow roses with northern exposure?

I live in Lo Angeles and am moving not far away  and want to take some of my roses with me. They will be going from a large, open eastern and south facing terrace to a much smaller, northern facing patio with a wall.  There is not deep shade, it is light, NOT sunny, and it is facing north. Sigh.... My worry is that the soil will never dry out and will remail heavy and wet.  I want so much to have my fairy rose climb up the wall and the Pal Joey and the Barbra Streisand bloom.  What do you think?  What can I do? They are in pots now and I can elevate them to be above the wall so that there is air around the plant.

Thank you.  I appreciate your advice.

    Sincerely, Ivy

PS I also have an apple tree.  What do you think about that?
