Rose Gardening Community

I have 6 Hybrid teas that my husband and I covered for about 6 nights in April.  Here in zone 6, we have had unusual weather this spring.  My roses were leafing out so nicely until the freeze.  Forecasters here called it a "dry freeze" and one article said not to cut back or fertilize plants.

We have also had very dry weather, and I began watering the plants.  They are slowly leafing out, but not a great deal.  My question is:  should I be patient, or should I prune off the dead and maybe apply bone meal?

I see no problem with pruning off the dead branches and I would definately keep them watered.

Bonemeal will not hurt the rose because it is an organic supplement.

Your rose should recover quite quickly now that May is here.

Thanks for the reply, John.  I pruned off the dead last Wednesday, and all but one plant seems to be making a comeback.  I plan to get some bonemeal next time I'm out.
