    Growing in a planter?

    Hello!

I recently purchased my first Rose bush a Frederic Mistral Hybrid tea Rose. Can this be potted? I don't care how big of a pot I have to grow it in, I just want to be able to take it with me when I move.

    Thanks!! Lara

Yes you can. I have many roses in containers. They are great since you can move them around your patio as you please. Now a 5ft high shrub won't grow to its potential in a pot. Should be eventually planted in the ground.

Hi, yes, yes, you can grow roses in pots. I have many roses in pots, oak whiskey barrels, etc. Goodluck!

The planter should obviously be sized in comparison with the hight of the plant.
My question is, when transplanting from the ground to a pot, how do you determine the size of pot? I have a bush approx. 5ft in hight to transplant.I know nothing about roses and have no idea what type it is.

    Thanks

Try a 2ft. diameter by 2ft. high pot. The larger the pot the better. Don't move the rose bush until it's growing season is over. My roses are in pots, and they are doing great.

    Thanks for the response.
When is the growing season over for roses?
I would assume it would be shortly after summer, but we all know what happens when we assume.

It depends when your summer is over (what part of the world you live in). October or November, before the snow falls is when I move my roses.

I also have had great success with roses in containers. I usually move my roses in December, when I am really sure they are dormant. The best roses for containers are the ones that are smaller to medium sized. Anything over 5 feet tall would of course do better in the ground.
