    Spindley Unhappy Rose Bushes

I live on the Gold Coast in Queensland and have 4 rose bushes in my garden that started out just lovely..2 Borderline (Blushing Pink and Ruby Red (large tight blooms) and .Blue River and Ophelia  (very tall - both hybrid teas) ... over the past couple of months they have all become very spindley, small flowers (if any), many black spotted yellow leaves and just very unhappy (just like me!)....what's happened?..any advice would be very welcome...regards  Elly

They have a disease called blackspot. First of all cut them back to 18 inches above the ground. Gather the leaves up and throw in the garbage. The leaves have the disease. Dig out the roses, remove the soil that was in around the rose. Replace with sterile garden soil mixed with steer manure, hand full of bonemeal and granular organic rose fertilizer. Re-plant the roses and water with soluble fish fertilizer. You also could relocate the roses to a sunnier area of your yard. This should do the trick. Smile

Or you could use a product called BanerMax and Mancozeb from Rosemania.com and spray the ground and bushes every 10 days after first pruning back to 10 - 12 inches.  Spraing at this interval will help kill and control the blackspot spores and resulting damage.
