What Roses are resistant to Black Spot?

Help!! My "Peace" rose bush has black spot, I'm devastated... The bush is about 5 ft tall with many buds coming out at the top but the bottom of the bush is bare from all the leaves that fell off. I sprayed with Ortho black spot spray and it did not work. The bush looks now like a bonsai tree. More and more leaves are falling off every day. I'm thinking about pruning off the top with all the leaves and buds and just starting over with a small bush with the remaining canes, but don't know if this is good to do now that we are going into the summer season. Does anyone have any suggestions...please..?

Hi Pat, thanks so much for your reply. In the past week the amazing thing has happened. I have new growth coming in at the bottom of my "Peace" rose bush. Its incredible. I still have black spot but I have a feeling I am always going to have it with this bush. I also have 5 other bushes. "Midas Touch", which is disease resistant;/ "Just Joey" which has black spot./ and "Honor" which is disease resistant; "Love" which I don't know yet; "Climbing Angel Face" which is disease resistant; "Queen Elizabeth" which I don't think is disease resistant, but not sure.

You should definately try some of the "Knock Out" versions (not hybrid teas, but great looking).

Black spot is usually caused by high humity and over head watering.  It is best to start cutting your roses back by 1/2 around valentines day in my zone 8.  Hybrids are beautiful roses, I just have a few and mostly antique roses at my place.  I would clean out all the decayed leaves and would have cut it back by 1/2 and start using a feeding and spraying regeimend about evey 2 weeks till you see results.  Don't give up the peace Rose is one my favorites.  Take a look at the Antique Rose Emporium site, you may already have seen it.  I have been bying from them for many years, allways have good roses,  went there for the first time this past weekend, the rose's in full bloom and I thought I had died and gone to heaven!
