    Grey fungus/mold on stems

Have had roses 4 years or so planted and now they almost all appear to have a grayish looking fungus/moss that grows outward from the stems themselves. Can anyone identify and maybe say how to stop this problem?.

This sounds like a moss rose. Their stems and sepals have a mutation of the glands that making it appear as if a green or reddish-brown moss were growing on it. This is a normal occurance and not a problem to worry about.
