    Eating Roses

Help! Something is eating the flowers on my rosebushes. It looks like someone is snipping all the flowers and buds off the bushes. There is no trace of flowers ever even existing. One day the bush might have flowers and buds and the next day there is no trace of them. At first, I thought it was rabbits because I only noticed it on smaller bushes, but now I've noticed it on a large bush. Could it be deer? Only the flowers and buds are affected, not the leaves.

    Hi Cheryl,
Sounds like deer to me too. They only eat the best parts, new growth and flowers. You could try dusting your buds with ceyenne pepper; since deer have a "wet mouth" they might not like that. If the problem persists, it could be something else. Insecticidal soap may work but if it rains a lot, you have to refresh the soap (or pepper) after each rain. But as for your midnight marauders, good luck. cheryl
