Renovating a climber thats never been pruned

I've got a climber (Mdme Alfred Carriere), about 3-4 years old, growing very vigorously, but its never been pruned. Its too leggy and no new stems are growing and very few flowers were produced this year. I need to completely renovate it, but don't know how to go about it, its a noisette climber and I understand these are a little temperamental.

What should I do. It really needs pruning (its the height of the house and not tied in at all!)

I would say to prune out all dead and spindly wood and then cut back all laterals by at least 2 feet. Take out the oldest canes all together.
