Knock Out Roses - When should I prune and how much?

I had these knock outs planted a year ago and I can't get a staight answer from the nursery who planted them. They seem to get very big, how far should I prune them and when? One person told me to cut them down to 15 inches tall at the beginning of spring, is this true?

    Thanks.

hybrid Teas can be pruned to about 15 inches from the ground and floribundas prune a little less. climbing roses should only have the oldest branches pruned away and some of the laterals pruned slightly

Hey thanks for the reply Irene but I am a total novice with roses. So what do I have here? Are knock outs a hybrid tea or floribunda? Please excuse my stupidity. Mine now are probably 3 feet tall and wide, if I trim them back to 15 inches above the ground, what time of year should I do this or does that matter?

    Thanks for the help!

Sorry, I've never heard of a rose with the name "knock out". However, all rose pruning is always best done when the rose is dormant. That would probably be early November to late January.

I live in Florida, love the knockout roses! I have cut mine anytime they appeared "untidy" or "unbalanced" in appearance. My experience has been that it has not made any difference how or how much i cut them back, they just continue to thrive beautifuly. It seems ya just can't hurt em'. I really really love them! Good Luck!
